MONTHLY REVIEW: March

MUSIC

We're still a little disappointed in ourselves (Mrs. Fitzsimmons 1, especially) but we kind of somehow maybe liked the Bret Michaels & Miley Cyrus duet "Nothing To Loss".

Check out country sibling-band, The Harters, and their debut EP Family. Love. Harmony. before they become the "next big thing"!

The newest video from She & Him, "In The Sun", had us smiling in anticipation for the duo's sophomore album.

Better late than never, but we're elated that Joshua Radin seems to be getting his dues with his bubbly single "I'd Rather Be With You".

Remember The White Stripes' song "You Don't What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)"...yeah, that was a good one. (sigh...)

MONTHLY REVIEW: July

We sure enjoyed our July here at Zonino! Lots of sun, breeze, cook-outs, and letting summer do what summer does best...

MUSIC

Nashville-based family band, The Bridges, bring their own brand of poppy folk music to the stage with their debut album, Limits Of The Sky.

Kristin Andreassen's quirky alt-country charm is a winner with her album, Kiss Me Hello. Check out the single "Crayola Doesn't Make A Color For Your Eyes" to see why!

Who's arguably the most rocking married couple? Why, The Weepies of course! We here at Zonino! have been loving their 2006 album, Say I Am You.

Newcomer Shane Wyatt brings back the old school feel of genuine country music with his debut album, The Last Cowboy.

The always great Michael Franti (with long-time band Spearhead) has been recently discovered by the masses because of a new hit single, "Say Hey (I Love you)," and their album, reggae-tinged All Rebel Rockers.

Brad Paisley had us all reminiscing about a time not too long ago when you somehow found your friends in a crowded room without a cell phone and no one freaked out when you were five minutes late with his newest single "Welcome To The Future."

Not that summer is winding down, but don't let it end without putting "Toes," by the Zac Brown Band, on your playlist for the remainder of your beach-going days!

BOOKS

Jonathan Safran Foer's sophomore novel Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close about a boy looking for meaning in a mysterious key owned by his recently deceased father, who die in the 9/11 terrorist attacks touched our hearts and awakened our child-like wonder.

The quickly advancing field of genetic science brings with it many moral, ethical, and political questions. Next, by Jurassic Park author, Michael Crichton illustrated them all in this layered novel.

RECIPE

Kick up your next grill-out with some Blue Cheese Burgers! Pour yourself a cup of Beerquila and you've got a party!

Add some Arroz con Coco to your dinner the next time you need a tropical touch!

Rain got you inside? How about some tasty Chicken Pesto Pizza to brighten the mood!?!

EAT OUT

In the Big Apple? Start with a stop at New York City's oldest functioning bar, McSorley's Old Ale House. Then head over to Crif Dogs in the East Village for a prohibition era hot dog and more!

MUSICAL

While you're in Metropolis, swing on by Broadway and check out the award-winning musical, In The Heights.

WEB

Love proving people wrong? Skeptical about an email forward? Take it to Snopes and check it's validity...or lack there of.

Thought your wedding cake tasted bad? That's not the least of it! At least it looked nice and not like some of the travesties at Cakewrecks, one of the funniest food blogs out there!

Speaking of, food wrecks, how about taking something already hideous and making it look better? The people at Fancy Fast Food do just that, and you can too!

YOUTUBE

How did people ever think these music videos were good in the first place?!? At least the creative people who made these Literal Videos had the opportunity to improve them.

In between gigs in the country music capital of the world, Canaan Smith apparently dabbles in street interviews for his "show" Donkey In A Box.

Who doesn;t love a good parody? You'll think of this video the next time your friend changes their relationship status on Facebook.

And who doesn't love the newest Foot-By-The-Foot television spot? (Who new they even made this stuff still???)

WORD

It would not be pernicious to this autonomous blog that we did not include any movies this month for lack of lassitude.

MONTHLY REVIEW: June

Another great month here at ZONINO! In case you missed something or just need a reminder of how great June was, here's your June recap:

MUSIC

We started off with a semi-blast from the past with the Trisha Yearwood's cover of Rosanne Cash's Seven Year Ache.

Feeling summery? Get a little Hawai'i flavor with Jack Johnson inspired soul pop from Ahuhea.

Check out our favorite country music up-and-comer, Sarah Lou Richard's myspace page.

Get addicted to the sound that seemingly all the prime time drama's already have and give Brett Dennen a listen!

We got in to Nashville rockers Kings of Leon and so should you!

One of the most addictive and impressive debuts in a while, Britain continues to export quality musicians with the grooving sounds of James Morrison and his debut album Songs For You, Truths For Me.

Sing-songwriters will relish in the raw beauty of soul of me, the newest album from Massachusetts native Rebecca Correia.

Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses continue to impress with the raspy, raw, and real sound of country music on Roadhouse Sun.

MOVIE

Feeling like the movies out now lack a little culture? Immerse yourself in the class and style of BBC's original production of the Jane Austen classic Pride & Prejudice.

No? Then check out one of the most recent films worthy of a view - the new to DVD The International.

BOOKS

Or...you know, you could just read the aforementioned Pride & Prejudice. You'll look pretty smart on the morning train!

RECIPE

Only one book this month, huh? We must have been too busy stuffing our faces...

Have an unforgettable summer picnic with a sad apple pizza and some strawberry spinach summer salad followed by some infamous PB Max cookies and maybe some raspberry topping sauce on a little scoop of ice cream!

TRAVEL & EAT OUT

Or you could take a Great Lakes road trip and visit Chicago's Coast Sushi, then head up Hwy I-94 and stop in Eau Claire, WI, for some coffee and bread pudding at the Grand Avenue Coffee Cafe, and continue on to the beautiful inland port city of Duluth for some tortilla-wrapped goodness (and beers) at Burrito Union.

Or, you know, you could just head down to the bizarro world of Dinosaur Kingdom in Natural Bridge, Virginia.

WEB & YOUTUBE

After all your traveling from above you'll definitely have tons of ZONINO!-worthy photos to show your friends. Don't show us though, unless you use Animoto, of course!

Did you check out precocious little Lucy Leith at Lemon Squared*? That'll make you feel a little worthless at your job, yeah?

We were definitely amused this month online!

Kristen Chenoweth brought her stage genius to her cabaret performance of "If" from the 1951 musical Two On The Aisle.

Vince and his quotable antics made us seriously question the validity of the Slap Chop! food chopper. (It's real!)

Jake and Amir reminded us both that 1) we are not that funny and 2) it's possible to waste more time at work than we do.

The Do-Re-Mi Spontaneous Dance Performance in Antwerp had us smiling like fools at the computer screen.

And finally, we paid tribute to the passing of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with an appropriate dance performance of our favorite MJ tune, P.Y.T. by the Jabbawockeez dance group.

WORD...

Would it be notional of us to say that June was ZONINO! but July will be definitely not be acrid in comparison!

Oh yeah...Go get yourself a pair of TOMS Shoes and check back soon!
