"I don't wanna die without shaking up a leg or two...Yeah, I wanna do some dancin' too!"
Who doesn't feel that way from time to time. This song "Hellhole Ratrace", by San Francisco band Girls (made up of no girls, FYI), off their album titled Album, is about just getting through. A slow-burning rocker, the song is a self-motivating plea to to the best you can and enjoy yourself while you're doing it - to live happily with no regrets.
I wish I would have heard this one on New Years Eve! My resolution may have lasted a day longer...

MUSIC: Hottub
A year ago I was visiting a friend living in San Francisco. One eventful evening we stumbled upon a band neither of us had ever heard of in club that she didn't know existed in a neighborhood she and her friend had only heard of. (You get an idea of how the night went.)
Regardless, the band was by and far the best thing of the night. Hottub, is a funky rockin' girl band with three members, who go by the names CoCo, Ambr33zy, and Loli Pop. These girls have some of the most bitingly fantastic lyrics I've ever heard (check out "Fifteen" and "Manb***h") and deliver them all in costumes inspired simultaneously by 1980's Madonna, "Saturday Night Fever," and Spandex.
This weekend I'll be heading back out to San Fran and we've got tickets to see the girls - on purpose this time! If you're in the area, you should come! If you're not, definitely check these party-gals out!

MOVIE: Milk
Sean Penn deserved every bit of his Oscar for this performance. The movie was heartwrenching and informative and raw. It's funny (not haha) that it was only 30 years ago when they were fighting Proposition 6 (trying to get gays and those supporting gays out of teaching jobs etc) and here we are, decades later, no better off as we try to undo the last 8 months of legalized gay marriage in California. Definitely a movie that makes you think and consider what you stand for and what the world we live in stands for. SEE IT!
